Inspired by The Underground Restaurant and MsMarmitelover herself, I decided to open my own paladar in Brixton. I have cooked in the past in the Bonnington Square Café, and in Cooltan (as Hecates Kitchen) but my main culinary practice has been cooking for myself for the last 21 years after being diagnosed with IBS amongst other things.
Its been an eye opener having to cook everything from scratch, and avoiding gluten, sugar, lemon juice, vinegar, dairy and mould. And most tragically, wine for a few years. Already a vegetarian I succumbed to meat again as it was the only thing I was sure of, when eating out, that wouldn’t arrive smothered in butter, lemon juice, sugar and wrapped in puff pastry! No worries the LSC will be cooking on all cylinders and serving food with butter, milk, cheese, sugar and a smile. Unless, at some stage, there is enough interest in having a vegan, gluten free, dairy free, dinner. I use organic products as a first option. But blog readers should know, I am also from the archibald and mehitabel school of punctuation.
